WHAT TO WEAR

Deciding What to Wear

Planning on what to wear can be a bit confusing to say the least but I am here to help make you feel and look like a million bucks. I have put together a few very helpful tips so you have success when looking for the right clothes for you and those involved in the photo shoot. No longer is it the style to wear all the same color shirts and pants for the whole family. White shirts and blue jeans are most everyone's first thought but lets think a little outside the box as we get ready for some special moments being captured.

Light colors.

If you choose to wear light colors choose neutral colors like gray and denim. I always like adding in a few other colors and even a pattern with color that will really pop nicely and pull everything together without being so simple it's dull or boring.

Accessories are your friend.
Always add accessories in many different forms. Could be for your outfit or for fun shots in the photographs. For your outfits think necklaces, scarves, jackets, hats, mittens, vests, boots, bow ties and suspenders... the list goes on and on so get in your closet or hit the store and get some fun choices to wear. Layering your clothes and add texture can make a huge difference for you during your photo session.  The more choices you give yourself the more freedom you have to be flexible. I am a big fan on lace, fur, and tweed because they photograph so beautifully as well. For fun bring something that says something about your family. Do you enjoy family movie night then bring popcorn as a prop.  Is football your big in your family then bring a football. Even as simple as freshly picked flowers or family quilt to sit on.

Dress Comfortably.
If you or your family don't feel comfortable it will show up in the photos so it is important to not just dress the part but for everyone to enjoy what they are wearing so they can give their best moments during the session. If the weather is cold and you are dressing in summer wear after the first few shots a smile will be hard to come by. Have a back up plan for chance in temperature.

Be Prepared.
Don't wait until a few days before your photo shoot to find the right outfit. As soon as you know you are getting your pictures taken it's time to get those outfits together. This way you are less stressed as you reach your session date and if there are any issues with your first plan you will have plenty of time to solve that before coming down to the wire. I want this to be an enjoyable happy time so go enjoy the process and don't wait until it becomes over whelming or a chore. Prepare for weather changes such as cold or hot. Now with this being said if you are doing my winter photo shoot in fake snow it's only 30 minutes and you will dress up as if it's cold out and in this case don't worry about the weather just come looking the part.

No Shirts with Logs or Characters.
As hard as it may be for teens or little ones to put away their favorite character shirt it doesn't come out very well in pictures and ends up being the focal point for the eyes and not the person wearing the shirt. Careful with tons of patters too on your clothing. Too much of a good thing like patters, logos, and themed shirts just a big distraction in each shot.

This Timeless.

Aim for a classic look because you want each pictures to be timeless. Hopefully these photos will be hanging on your walls at home and something you'll treasure for a life time. Stay true to your style while keeping it classic.
